With Memorial Day approaching, Prime Wellness of Pennsylvania teamed up with a downtown Reading nonprofit to write letters of support and deliver care packages to military serving at home and abroad.

PWPA collaborated with VOiCEup Berks, a Reading-based nonprofit organization dedicated to connecting all sectors of Berks County to volunteer opportunities. The initiative is part of PWPA’s larger effort to support the local community through volunteer service projects and partnerships.

“We were so excited to partner with VOiCEup Berks for this event, because veterans are such an important part of our patient base,” said Lynsi Sheckler, Compliance Manager for PWPA.  “Anything we can do to give back to them is so important to our mission.”

The PWPA team donated an array of items for the care packages, including sewing kits, playing cards, puzzles, socks and other requested items. In addition to writing Thank You letters, the  PWPA volunteers assembled paracord bracelets. The bracelets have a variety of uses for military members and are considered a survival tool.

The care packages will be sent to Operation Gratitude, a California-based nonprofit that coordinates donations to active duty military, veterans and first responders.

The event provided another opportunity to support veterans in honor of Memorial Day.
“One of the best ways to honor the veterans who have lost their lives is to take care of our veterans who are serving today,” said Christi Terefenko, co-founder and Executive Director of VOiCEup Berks.
